Skills School – spring ’22

Course fee: £995 with 4 nights accommodation included.
Class size: 1 teacher & 1 assistant to 3 students.
Date: Monday to Friday / 14th – 18th March 2022. Runs from 10am to 4,30pm
Location: Studio Sangeet, Gillingham Dorset.
Course overview:
We’re aiming this course at those with a basic understanding of the craft that wish to develop their abilities further alongside a skilled practitioner in a professional workshop environment.
Rather than creating standalone showpieces, students will be led via demonstration through the diverse processes used daily in a prosthetics workshop looking in detail at the variations and logic behind each step, with opportunities for hand-on shadowing and repetition along the way.
Using an array of pre-made moulds, different equipment and materials of choice we will be focusing on:
Lab Skills:
Colour matching silicone to skin with pigments and flock.
Cap plastic; brush/spray mixes and using them on flat/contoured/hard/soft moulds.
Running pieces; using correct releases and casting techniques for different moulds.
Understanding environmental impacts on workflow; temp/humidity/time/equipment/materials/hacks.
Sculpting Prosthetics:
Demo sculpting on lifecasts and on flat boards, floating sculpts and re-mounting for moulding.
Understanding choices like placement and thicknesses but also techniques like achieving good edges and realistic texture.
Application Session:
A day of group application work and techniques: pre-painting and colour theory, applying quick and fast flat pieces, small delicate contoured pieces and transfers.
